National organisations
The British Alliance of Healing Associations is a properly constituted charity that was originally formed in 1976 and finally acquired charity status in 1982. The Objectives of the Alliance are:-
(i) Education of the public and healing organisations and improvement of good practice; (ii) implementation of standards of education and support of individual healing centres; (iii) through networking provide effective communication and interaction between member organisations;
Membership of the Alliance is open to Spiritual Healing Organisation's with charitable objectives that can satisfy the criteria for membership and are willing to accept and follow the BAHA Code of Conduct and the Complaints and Disciplinary Procedures and its Constitution.
BAHA has no central registered premises and is a voluntary organisation; officers and trustees, the majority of whom are healers, meeting as required on Association's premises, carry out the work of the charity. Member Associations organise healer training programmes and related workshops on a regular basis. Many also attend public meetings, Fayres and exhibition events where they take a stand or booth to demonstrate and promote Spiritual Healing.
UK Healers
UK Healers is a development group of various Organisations who recognise the need for self regulation in respect of Spiritual Healing and formed in 2000 in response to the House of Lords Select Committee Report on Complementary and Alternate Therapies.
The main emphasis from the House of Lords Report was that each therapy should be self-regulatory, rather than having so many different organisations working separately. The concept of the UK Healers Regulatory Body is not to take over Organisations but to formulate common Basic Standards of Good Practice, so that all organisations are working along the same lines for the benefit of the general public.
UK Healers Self-Regulatory Body ihas been active with various governmental departments relating to health and in particular the Prince of Wales Foundation for Complementary Medicine. Its constitutional objectives have been focussed upon developing national healing standards.
The JCPF has followed the BAHA lead in 2010 of withdrawing membership of UK Healers and instead recognising the CNHC as the currently active body that government and the NHS recognise.
CNHC is the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners.
Its key function is to enhance public protection by setting standards for registration with CNHC. The CNHC quality mark' is being recognised as the hallmark of quality for the sector. This means that the general public, and those who commission the services of complementary healthcare practitioners, will be able to choose with confidence by looking for the CNHC quality mark.
The Department of Health recommends that, where CNHC registers the professional discipline in question, you consult with someone who is CNHC registered.
Who is ECHO? Echo is the European Confederation of Healing Organisations; it is an Umbrella Organisation to accommodate Healing Organisations in the whole of Europe, the Political as well as the Geographic Europe.
Why was ECHO formed? Echo was formed to enable Healing Organisations in different countries of Europe to join forces and speak with one voice to European politicians.
Health Services within the European Market, though at the moment still under the jurisdiction of the individual countries, will one day come under the ruling of European law. This could very well mean that in those countries where healing is allowed, it could eventually be forbidden! The member Organisations of ECHO hold the opinion that Healing, as it is allowed in the UK and some other European countries, should be permitted in all countries in the European Market. At a time when a number of countries in Europe are struggling to maintain their Health Services, consideration should be given to which Complementary Healing Services could be made available to help relieve the strains on the resources of the established Health Services,
